Haematology

Haematology is the study of blood cells and their disorders. Anaemia, Sickle cell, Leukemia are just some of the conditions that are investigated in the lab. This area also looks at the clotting ability of your blood.

Common tests requested in this area include Full Blood Count, Blood Group and Clotting times.

Chemistry

Chemistry

Clinical Chemistry as it is also referred to, is the branch of Medical Laboratory studies that examine the aqueous part of your blood to measure its components. For example, glucose in diabetic patients, cholesterol and liver enzymes to screen for other disorders. These analyses are usually performed using laboratory equipment.

The scientific study or diagnostic examination of blood, especially with regard to the response of the immune system to foreign organisms or substances.

Eg, Herpes testing, venereal disease, Immunity screens for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.

Microbiology

Microbiology

The area of laboratory testing where we isolate and identify disease-causing organisms and recommend the best antibiotic to treat the disorder. Types of samples submitted to this department include swabs, urine, and feces.
